Our spotlight this week is on author Olivia Gates. Connect with Olivia Gates:
I love that I can go all out writing my modern day fairytales starring uber-alpha males who are always billionaires, sometimes princes or sheikhs or tycoons, who find their match in independent heroines who give them a run for their billions and bring them to their knees, while taking the reader to exotic lands full of fantasy and glamor, setting my stories in opulent surroundings while telling a scorchingly emotional and passionate love story.
What do you think makes a good story?
Complex characters with plenty of internal conflict, a relationship that has everything working against it, an irresistible emotional connection, a searing physical attraction and a setting that showcases all that. External conflict can also be thrown in to raise the stakes.
You write about exotic places in Desire– what is your ideal holiday destination?

I really hope my readers enjoy this book as much as I loved writing it. It's been getting fantastic reviews. It even earned me a fantastic quote from #1 New York Times Bestselling Author Sylvia Day, who said: " "I'm a big fan of Olivia Gates and her sizzling alpha heroes, who fall hard for their worthy heroines. In her latest "Billionaires and Babies" installment, Maksim and Caliope's affair ended when Maksim disappeared from her life. Now he's back, but is it too late to mend what he's broken? No one does seduction and reparation better than Gates."
It also earned me a Top Pick review from RT Bookreviews Magazine, where the reviewer says: "Gates has a gift for writing multidimensional characters and emotionally driven stories that resonate and stay with readers. Her latest is no exception. Set against the beautiful and expertly described backdrop of Russia, Claiming His Own is a beautiful love story that readers won’t want to put down."

ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Susan!! It's always a thrill to get great reviews, but this book really got me some extra special ones!
DeleteClaiming His Own certainly sounds like a page turner. And that baby and its sweet little head w/the curl up front is so cute!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Leandra! I am getting great response for the book, with readers calling it my most emotional yet and one even started a twitter hashtag for it called angsty in the best way! :-) (love your name, btw. Can I borrow it for one of my heroines??)
DeleteThat's a sweet cover.
ReplyDeleteIt was a pleasure meeting the author. I love a lot of internal conflict.
Thank, Medeia! It's a pleasure being here and meeting you all. :-) What do you write?

ReplyDeleteThank you very much, William. And thank you for stopping by! :-)
DeleteI'm a big fan of internal conflict, too. Well, in books at least. ;)
ReplyDeleteHi Kelly,
DeleteThanks for coming by to chat with Olivia!
Hi Kelly
DeleteI adore internal conflict, the more angsty the better. But of course I'd prefer said turmoil be only in books. Claiming His Own has the most seething internal conflict I've written yet! :-)
I absolutely agree with your thoughts on what makes a good story!

DeleteI'm so glad you think so, too. It's always very useful to hear what other readers and writers think! :-)
Nice to meet you, Olivia. Your books sound like great escapes!
ReplyDeleteHi, Nas :)
Lovely to meet you, too, Carol! And yes, what I write for Harlequin Desire is just that, what I call modern-day fairytales! :-)
DeleteHi Nas, Hi Olivia,
ReplyDeleteNice to meet Olivia - she looks like a Harlequin heroine herself.
So nice to meet you, too, Maria!
DeleteAnd OH....how kind of you to say this about me! You made my day for sure! :-)
Congratulations on those great reviews, Olivia! Great way to start with a new book.
ReplyDeleteI can so relate to your answer about the ideal holiday destination. I've travelled a lot in the past as well, but now I like to go places closer to home. I'll leave the exotic locations to the stories. :)
ReplyDeleteSounds like a wonderful book, Olivia. Thanks, Nas, for sharing the interview and book synopsis with you readers. I agree with your keys for a great story, Olivia. Sounds like you have done it with your present work. Congratulations and good luck.
