Spotlight on Liz Fielding, The Billionaire's Convenient Bride- April

This week our Spotlight on Author: Liz Fielding. She has a new book, The Billionaire's Convenient Bride!

Liz Fieding says...

I met my husband when we were working in Zambia and were both members of the Lusaka Theatre Club. He was playing de Stogumber in St Joan, and I was the pageboy to the Earl of Warwick. He swore it was the purple tights that got him. I wish I had a photograph. Sadly none exist.
We travelled a lot in Africa and the Middle East then we had babies and settled down back home, first in Wales, then Wiltshire and now West Sussex.

I started writing when the children were small and my first romance, An Image of You, was set in Kenya, in a place where we’d spent many happy weekends on safari. It was plucked from the slush pile because the feisty feminist heroine made my editor laugh. Emotion touched with humour has been the hallmark of my work ever since.

I joined the Romantic Novelists' Association when my first book was published in 1992 and this year they honoured me with their Outstanding Achievement Award.

What literary pilgrimages have you gone on?

Living near Bath gave me endless Jane Austen moments. Shopping in Milsom Street, walking along Great Pulteney Street (where Vanity Fair was filmed) and Victoria Park.
What is the first book that made you cry?

I started reading so young that it's difficult to remember the exact one, but I cried buckets through the last chapters of Gone With the Wind when I was seventeen.

What is the most unethical practice in the publishing industry?

The pirating of books and pretending that authors have given permission to give their books away.

Does writing energize or exhaust you?

Both. There are days, when the words flow and plot blocks dissolve that give you thr biggest high. When a book stalls - it's draining.

Tell us a little bit about your book...

Agnes and Kam were friends, allies, partners in crime as youngsters, but then, in that moment when it becomes something more everything goes wrong and because of Agnes, Kam loses everything. Now it's Agnes who is struggling and having made millions, Kam is back to turn the tables, but money, he discovers, is not going to be enough.

  4. Nice interview, ladies! I think including humor in any kind of novel makes it a better one. Making an editor who's wading through a towering slush pile laugh is quite an accomplishment!

    1. I love a bit of humour in the books I read, Susan. MB were all dark emotion and angst back then. I think I came as a bit of light relief. Still not sure how it got through!

  5. The mental image works as well as a picture. My father was going to an outdoor summer symphony and he put on dress shorts with black socks and dress shoes. I never laughed so hard. Annoyed, he asked, "So what shoes do I wear with dress shorts?" I have no pictures either.

The book sounds like a wonderfully romantic read. Best of luck.

    1. The dh used to wear dress shorts when we lived in Africa. He wore proper shoes, but long stockings. He had great legs... :)
