Spotlight on Author: Ciara Knight & Healing the Veteran

This week our Spotlight on Author: Ciara Knight. She has a new book out, Healing the Veteran

Ciara Knight
is a USA Today and Publishers Weekly bestselling author who writes heart-tugging, faith-filled romance with a dash of hope and a whole lot of love. When she's not wrangling swoon-worthy cowboys or crafting small-town drama, she's navigating life as a proud mom of three spirited (and now grown!) boys.

In a major plot twist no one saw coming, Ciara and her tech-savvy husband recently traded in their empty nest for open waters—purchasing a boat to live aboard full-time. Together, they’re setting sail on the greatest adventure yet: the next chapter of life, love, and a few waves of inspiration. Anchors aweigh!

  • What are your favorite literary journals?

I love journals that celebrate heartfelt, meaningful stories. Ruminate and Image really resonate with me because they explore the intersection of faith and storytelling. I also admire The Sun for the way it captures the human spirit, and I always enjoy One Story for spotlighting emerging authors. Although not a traditional literary journal, my favorite is Chicken Soup for the Soul.
  • What is your favorite childhood book?
My favorite childhood book is Little Women. My mother used to read it aloud to my sister and me from her well-loved copy, its binding worn and pages decorated with old-fashioned artwork. Listening to her voice bring the March sisters to life felt like stepping into another time, a story from the past that stirred my imagination and sparked my lifelong love of storytelling.
  • What is the most difficult part of your artistic process?
The hardest part for me is battling doubt—wondering if the story in my heart will come across on the page. I’ve learned to push through by focusing on the characters, leaning on faith, and remembering that every book starts with just one sentence.
  • Tell us about this book...
Healing the Veteran tells the story of a soldier scarred by the past—physically and emotionally—who returns home believing he’s too broken to deserve love. When he meets a compassionate heroine, her kindness and unwavering belief in grace challenge his walls. Through love, faith, and community, he discovers that healing isn’t about erasing the past but learning to live again with hope.

Healing the Veteran
A K-9 in need
could help open his closed-off heart.

Haunted by a disastrous military mission, wounded veteran Ace Gatlin vows to live alone on his farm so he can never fail anyone again. However, this doesn’t discourage his determined neighbor, physiotherapist Jolene Pearl, who shows up at his door with a troubled K-9 desperate for a home.

Jolene is sure the two injured warriors need each other, and soon, their joint efforts to rehabilitate sweet Bear chip away at the shrapnel lodged in Ace’s heart. But when a catastrophic tornado strikes Willow Oaks, more than just their budding relationship is put to the test.

Can Jolene help Ace see himself as worthy of happily-ever-after?

  7. What a lovely spotlight on Ciara Knight, her journey sounds truly inspiring, and the fact that she and her husband are now full-time liveaboards is such a fun plot twist for an author who writes about small-town life. I absolutely love her choices for literary journals; that is so insightful to choose the ones that focus on faith and the human spirit, and Little Women is just a timeless, beautiful choice for a favorite childhood book. Healing the Veteran sounds like a wonderful, heart-tugging romance, that blend of a wounded soldier, a compassionate physiotherapist, and a rescue K-9 sounds like the perfect formula for a story about finding grace and hope, I hope you're having a wonderful and peaceful weekend. I’ve just shared a new travel post, and I’m really excited for you to read it. How is your Saturday going? melodyjacob.com.
