So here she is now...

Thanks for inviting me to talk about my latest mini-series for Harlequin Romantic Suspense, called Chance, Texas, and the first two books in the series: TEXAS BABY SANCTUARY and TEXAS MANHUNT, both out now.  The  Chance, Texas series tells the story of a large family of Texas siblings who were orphaned young, faced a great deal of difficulties and now run a mega ranching empire.

Writing about a family of mostly young men who have faced enormous difficulties in their lives has been a lot of fun for me.   Each brother has a past they must overcome in order to find love.  The oldest brother, Sam, is riddled with guilt. But he has found his chance for redemption in saving Grace Baker and her young son.

There was nowhere safe for Grace Baker and her baby to run.  Even the law was no match for the ruthless drug lord who’d fathered her child.  Serrano had spies everywhere and wouldn’t stop till he captured his son and killed Grace.  Now Marshal Sam Chance was suddenly back in her life offering protection…could she dare to refuse?

Sam believed his family ranch was the one place Grace would be safe.  Here they found refuge in each other’s arms.  But returning home only reminded Sam of his past failure to protect those he loved.  This time had to be different.  Because Grace and her baby meant more to him than life itself.

The second son in the Chance family is larger than life Travis.  He runs the huge ranching operation and most of the town of Chance.  He was a difficult character to write because he controls his world with an iron fist.  But almost everyone who knows him loves him and sees right into his soft heart of pure gold.

TEXASMANHUNT

Back Blurb:

Rancher Travis Chance has a soft spot for lost souls.  Stranded and broke in Chance, Texas, Summer Wheeler ignites in him a fierce desire to protect her.  Clearly the fragile beauty is hiding something.  But despite his disastrous romantic history, Travis knows in his gut he can trust her.

Summer comes to Chance looking for one of the men who devastated her life.  Though she hates lying to him, Travis’s job offer provides a means to her end.  But she never counted on falling for the sexy rancher and his troubled little girl.  Then “accidents” start happening at the family homestead.  Has Summer brought the danger to the two people who are teaching her to love again?

So do you love characters with difficult pasts? Or would you rather read about rich heroes who’ve lived relatively easy lives until they ran into a difficult woman who turns their worlds’ around?   Any particular books that you loved with a wounded hero? I'll give away one book from this series to one lucky commenter!

  2. Hi Donna! So glad you like the same things I do. Just love
torturing the big strong heroes. :)

  3. I like a rich hero with a difficult past. They're used to getting their way in all things. They need the right woman to bring them to their knees. I just finished Doukakis's Apprentice by Sarah Morgan and it was just like that. Thanks!

  4. I think I like both scenarios, actually!

  9. Hi Theresa!

I know! If we don't get an interesting hero then we would not read after all!

  10. Hi Linda!

Welcome to my home on the web!

  11. I think it adds another element of realism to a character if they have a history; it can make their actions easier to relate to.

  12. I do love those stories about strong people overcoming their troubled pasts. These books sound right up my alley! :)

  14. I'm looking forward to getting to know these strong characters. I'm so excited that I won one of your books on Riya's blog from your guest post. Thanks so much, Linda. I'm so jazzed!

Nas, thanks for delivering the good news!

  15. Difficult pasts - definitely! Because I think we all think we have one, and can relate. Any time people change their lives for the better, overcome obstacles and really change, it's uplifting. Characters who'd lived perfect, easy lives would be boring!

  17. Large cast of characters, which should make for an interesting series.

I like reading about leads who've had challenging things in their past. The stories are more interesting that way.

  18. Good luck with your books, Linda. They sound awesome. Wounded heroes are always the best kind of hero. :-)

  20. Hi Shelley B! Yes, rich heroes are always good. It lets us dream we could be the heroine.

  21. LOL Lydia. You sound like me. We want everything! Well, somewhere in these books I hope I did that.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Hello again, Theresa! Yeah we need to beat up on these heroes. That makes it even better when the heroine heals him.

  23. I love characters with a past...a troubled past. :)

    Congratulations on your books, Linda.

  24. The Golden Eagle- realism is good. Of course, I like a good dose of fantasy now and then. But these romantic Suspense books are fairly realistic. Hope you get to try one.

  25. Hi Jemi, I hope these books are right up your alley too!

  32. Hi Nas, Hi Linda, thank you for this giveaway :)

Well, I love the male main character with difficult past, but then he found a woman with an easy life which is really opposite of the hero. At first, the hero would have some kind of hate with the heroine but then the heroine totally conquer him and winning his heart. Whoa...I loved it :D

  33. I like reading all sorts of books with all sorts of heroes. You learn something new from every story, that's why. I also enjoy reading about worlds I have no idea about. At the same time, love is a universal emotion, so romances will resonate with a reader no matter what world they're set in.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Hi AmelArmeliana! Happy to hear you loved a difficult past story. Me too!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Very astute observations, Maria. Thanks for giving us your opinion. (I loved it because it's the same as mine) LOL

  37. I do like reading about rich heroes, but like Linda, I write those who have difficult pasts. Backstory is much more fun to write for troubled heroes.

Thanks for intro to Linda, Nas!

  43. I love the premise of Texas Baby Sanctuary. A cowboy hero with a soft spot for babies. Love it.

    ReplyDelete
  44. I LOVE reading about wounded characters!!
Susan Elizabeth Phillips wrote HOney Moon which had two really wounded characters. It's one of my favs.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Give me difficult pasts any day! I love complicated characters.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I'm with Shelley above. Too much psycho-babble stuff is a major turn off. I love the creativity of moving forward.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Hi Leslie, Thanks! Yes, babies and cowboys make a great combination in a novel.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Jennifer, I love SEP's books. She really puts her characters through the wringer. :)

    ReplyDelete
  49. Thanks for stopping by, Tali! Complicated pasts are a favorite of mine.

  51. I was wondering whether you would be happy to put up a link in my brand new monthly series called “Books You Love”. The idea is for people to link up posts about a book they loved – it doesn’t have to be one they just posted about. It could be an old fave. I am hoping we will end up with a nice collection of books that can go on our reading lists. Here is the link Books You Loved May Edition

  52. Thanks for putting up the link.

The Chances sound like an interesting bunch. I'm glad I stopped by to read about these characters.

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  56. I'm glad you stopped by too, Medeia. Thank you!

  58. I love series like this, which are loosely connect by setting and family, but feature a different story each time. Uh oh. More books for the wishlist!

    ReplyDelete
  59. I love ALL characters - those with difficult pasts, those with relatively easy lives, etc. - variety is the spice of life!

As for a wounded hero, I just finished reading Pamela Ford's HER BEST BET, where the hero came home to recover after a shrapnel leg wound. Loved the way that Pamela weaved her story around secrets that several characters had been keeping and came to a logical, yet surprising, resolution to them all at the end. Couldn't read the pages fast enough....

  60. Welcome, Cecilia83! I like over-protective heroes too. In fact, I just finished writing the next book in this series and he's way overprotective. Love it.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Hi Deniz! I love series too. That's why I'm writing this one and why most of my books in the past have all been series too. Hope you get the chance to read them.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Hi Laney4. Haven't talked to you in a while! I know you love all romance- LOL. Thanks for stopping by!

  63. I think I love any kind of characters, whether he had difficult pasts or lived relatively easy lives. But since characters with difficult pasts somehow caught my attention faster and I'd love him even more knowing he managed to overcome whatever happened to him, I almost love every books I've read about tortured heroes.

    ReplyDelete
  64. I love all character heroes but definitely most of all I love alpha male heroes.
