Who is Susanne Hampton?
I am the mother of two adult
daughters and a short-tempered Malteze Shih-Tzu who clearly does not like her
human siblings. With an optimistic outlook on life, which was required to deal
with rejection letters over the 19 years since my first submission to Mills
& Boon, I still hold out hope that my fur child will bond with her big
sisters one day. By day I work for the
South Australian government in a contract and event management role and all
other spare time is spent writing medical romance. Since signing with Mills & Boon my garden
has taken a turn for the worse and the ironing pile is at risk of an
avalanche…..but I am very happy.
Who is your favourite author?
I admire and enjoy reading many, many
authors but the first Mills & Boon Medical Romance author I read was Marion
Lennox, and I still absolutely love her books.
Danielle Steel is my ‘go to’ writer if I want to escape into another
world.
Do you listen to music while you
write?
My brain would not cope with music
and writing. Decades ago, when I was
still at school I could study and listen to the radio but that would be too
much at my age and I would certainly go mad.
What type of music?
When I am not writing, I love
listening to most genres, although Michael Bolton is an all time favorite (I
was fortunate enough to meet him not long ago and can say he is such a lovely
and gracious man – plus very handsome).
I also listen to my daughter Orianthi’s music and love it! Super proud.
What does 'romance' mean to you?
Romance is when two people realise
they have met the ‘one’. The euphoric
mix of love and lust and the desire to spend every possible moment with the
person you know in your heart is the most precious and important being the
world.
What do you do to relax?
A candlelit bubble bath every night
is my time. I would rather miss half an hour of sleep
than go without my time to let my mind and spirit unwind in the warm, fragrant
bubbles.
‘Unlocking the Doctor’s Heart’ is my debut book and
the story of Beth Seymour and Matthew Harrison and their rollercoaster journey
to finding love. Beth left an almost ‘Cinderella’ background in England to
forge a new life in Australia through a medical exchange program. Matthew, an A & E consultant and Beth’s
new boss, is angry at the world and distrusting of women after having his heart
shattered many years before. Medicine is
his mistress and he fights the overwhelming attraction he feels to Beth with
everything he has but she won’t take no for an answer. This story is about
learning to trust again, feeling the joy that love brings and relinquishing the
need to be in control.
No music for me either unless I'm not writing. That candlelight bath sounds delightful. That I'll do no matter what!
ReplyDeleteThe best things in life really are free. :)
DeleteA pleasure to meet you, Susanne.
ReplyDeleteThank you for stopping by to read my post!
DeleteLet the laundry topple - sounds like you're on the right track with life!
ReplyDeleteI tend to always have TV or music playing while I write - takes care of that bouncy brain of mine I think :)
I admire your ability to do that ....I am too easily distracted....my brain would wander off I'm sure. :)
DeleteHi Susanne
ReplyDeleteI do like the sound of this one congrats on the release I too love a good medical and one of my favourites is Amy Andrews :)
Have Fun
Helen
Thank you, I'm super happy to see my book in stores! I agree Amy is an amazing author.
DeleteI love Susanne's definition of romance, that's about it in a nutshell. Wishing her and her book much success!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much and happy you like my definition. :)
ReplyDeletethank you for a fab introduction to Susanne Pangaris. I too love the definition of Romance... wow! So simple but hits the nail full on the head. Best wishes for the book Susanne.
ReplyDeleteThank you. Romance can mean different things to different people but glad you like my interpretation.
DeleteHow wonderful to meet Susanne! I hope her fur child will soon bond with its human siblings. :) The laundry piles sound like an even trade for the writing she is doing since she signed her contract. Wishing her the best of luck!
ReplyDeleteThank you but I hold out little hope for Mathilda accepting she has to share me! :)
DeleteBest wishes to Susanne! Fellow Steel fan. She started me on my love of romance. Her and Barbara Cartland.
ReplyDeleteYes Ms Steel is an amazing storyteller and my bookcase is filled with her books.
DeleteI also have trouble writing with any distractions. Unlocking The Doctor's Heart sounds like an intriguing romantic getaway.
ReplyDeleteJulie
Yes, early morning and late at night are great ... everyone is still asleep and there are no distractions!
DeleteAn optimistic outlook is something all writers need, I think. We'd never start a book without it.
ReplyDeleteYes and it allows you to believe you can meet the deadline! :)
ReplyDeleteI would recommend this story to all romance readers. It's a classic romance and really worth the read. My Mom loved this book. Wishing Susanne and her book much success!
ReplyDeleteThank you! So happy your Mom liked the book too. :)
DeleteI'm like you - no lyrics when I write. Sometimes no music at all.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your release. It must be great to finally realize your dream.
Yes, a dream come true! I still pinch myself when I see my book in a store.
DeleteI'm a real sucker for books with medical settings. Good luck, Susanne. I wish you much success.
ReplyDeleteNo music for me while I'm writing, either. The only distraction I can tolerate is the "help" my cats try to give me while I'm working. (It requires a whole different skill set to type with a ca's tail swishing in your face.)
Thank you. I love my furry personal assistants too ...such an asset to any writer. :)
ReplyDeleteA great definition of romance. Congrats on the release.
ReplyDeleteThank you... it's an exciting time!
DeleteWonderful interview. It's great to meet you, Susanne.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much. It's hard to keep it brief sometimes. :)
DeleteLove this interview and introduction to Susanne.
ReplyDeleteMy daughters listen to Orianthi :)
Thank you. It's sometimes difficult to decide what readers would like to know. I will let Orianthi know. :)
ReplyDeleteI had a hard time listening to music while I write too, until I started listening to purely orchestral stuff. I've got a whole playlist now, and almost can't write without it. Dangerous, eh?

DeleteI did try the instrumental cd's ... but still distracted me ....I'm the type who needs to write in a 'cone of silence'! :)
DeleteA candle lit bath sounds great. Add bubbles and it's my idea of heaven. Congrats on your new release!
ReplyDeleteHeaven at the end of a long day ... like the oasis in the desert somedays!
DeleteBack in the day, I devoured Danielle Steele novels. I remember 'Going Home' was her first book. But 'The Promise' was the one that REALLY did it for me...
ReplyDeleteA candlelight bubble bath sounds like a great way to wind down...
Congratulations Susanne!

DeleteKind regards, Susanne.
My husband bought me the boxed set of her videos so all the books I've read I have now also watched! :)
ReplyDeleteI could not live my life without words and music. In my line of work escape is essential. Thank you to both you and Orianthi for providing both. You will never know how much it helps :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks Carol. I can't imagine my life without them as well. :)
