Spotlight on Mickey J. Corrigan, The Blow Off #Giveaway

This week's Spotlight on Author is on Mickey J. Corrigan and her latest release The Blow Off. There's a Kindle Copy Giveaway of The Blow Off to one commenter!

Q: So, Mickey, you have another new book out? Aren't you tired of releasing new books?

A: Over the last few years, I've published more than a dozen books. Mostly novellas with the wonderful Wild Rose Press. The Blow Off , a novel, is going to be the last book for a while.

Q: The Blow Off? What kind of title is that?

A: It's the perfect title for a book about a girl gang who seduce and rob rich guys. See, they're sexy and intriguing so the men go for them. Then these girls agree to go back to his place, where things get hot. However, these chicks come prepared. They slip him a mickey (no relation), knock him out cold, then take all the poor guy's bling. So, see, it's the ultimate blow off.

Q: I guess. But it doesn't sound very romantic.

A: Well, the protagonist, Shea O'Grady, has gotten the big blow off from her boyfriend. A secretive investigative reporter, he went overseas to do a story, leaving her with his apartment and their mounting debt. She's feeling sorry for herself and getting into trouble while trying to resist the urge to get involved with a very attractive neighbor. That little romance simmers along. Meanwhile, another girl in the gang falls for a cute guy after they do a test run of the knockout drug on him. Well, I don't want to give the plot away, but don't worry, there's romance.

Q: Where did you get the idea for this book?

A: There was quite a bit of press a while back about a bottle gang in South Florida. These sexy girls would go to area clubs and look for rich men to buy them drinks. Then they would agree to go to the men's hotel rooms or homes. Once there, they would slip a knockout drug in the guy's drink. After he woke up, the girl would be gone. Along with his Rolex, cash, and small luxury items. The mark would not report the robbery because it was too embarrassing. Some had a wife or girlfriend. No way they could explain what happened! The perfect crime.

Q: So how did the story get into the news? Did some guy admit he'd been conned?

A: Yes, and once one man stepped forward, a stream of embarrassed men followed. One guy, a sports celebrity, had been staying in a hotel. Hundreds of thousands of dollars' worth of jewelry and cash were taken from the safe in his room. Those girls did well.

Q: Are they still on the loose?

A: No. Once their descriptions were given to the local authorities, the girls were tracked down and arrested.

Q: Are you giving away the ending for The Blow Off?

A: No, not at all.

Sometimes a girl has to take a guy for all he's got.

One long, hard night of working the streets is more than enough for 25 year old Shea O'Grady, a Boston-based grad student. She just doesn't have the stomach for it. Or the lips. So she comes up with a better way to use her youthful sexiness to pay off her debts. When she shares her plan to seduce and rob johns with Cedrick7Z, her nasty tempered pimp, he agrees to fence her take for a generous cut. So Shea puts together a team of girls to work with her. And she convinces her downstairs neighbor, a hunky Rastafarian dealer dude, to help with the knockout drugs.

Based loosely on the exploits of a sexy set of bottle girls operating in South Florida, The Blow Off is a cautionary tale, a romantic black comedy, and a satirical look at student debt, prostitution, woman on man crime, and the things we do for love.

  1. I think I read about this in the news... it's crazy how people hide it out of embarrassment ... it's good that somebody finally came forward and stopped them.

Interesting premise for a book xox

    1. It took a while before someone had the courage to report what happened. Makes you wonder what else goes unreported...

    1. Yes, and it becomes a reason for criminal activity more often than we would think. Sad but true!

  5. Very nice interview, ladies! And this sure doesn't sound the usual run-of-the-mill romance. Like Kelly said, this is a very interesting premise. Good luck with it Mickey. (I love your line about the "mickey" given to the rich guys was "no relation".)

    1. Where I live they call them "bottle girls," Working in teams is seen as safer. Guys should be careful who they bring home from a nightclub!

  10. Man, over a dozen books in a few years?? That's AMAZING. Congratulations and how the hell do you do it? I really like the sound of this one - not at all your typical romance!

    1. Thanks. My books are short, mostly novellas and short novels. My longest novel wasn't much over 200 pages. None of them are standard romances. Always dark and quirky. Maybe like my own!

  11. I seem to recall reading about the girls that committed those crimes. I think it is fascinating that they were the inspiration for this book. :) Can't believe all the new releases Mickey has had. Wow! :)

    1. We only read about those girls because they got caught. I bet there are a lot more cases that have gone unreported. Many
