So over to Robyn now....

My first recollection of Texas revolves around a little ol’ film by the name of Giant.
Watching that movie on television at around age ten, I was too young to appreciate the iconic magic of James Dean. What I do recall is fascination when, doused in black ooze, Jett Rink stumbled onto the steps of Rock and Liz’s mansion to hoot and holler about striking oil.
Big ranches, big money, BIG stories!
Glued to that small screen all those years ago, I never dreamed I would one day be called to contribute to a series that highlights that great Lone Star State. And not just any series. Harlequin Desire’s Texas Cattleman’s Club is a huge favourite among readers.
This latest series of six books - ‘The Final Showdown’ - takes place during a campaign to elect a new TCC president and involves a scandal people talk behind their hands about.  In ‘Millionaire Playboy, Maverick Heiress’ (which sits between Barbara Dunlop’s ‘An After-Hours Affair’ – fabulous read! – and Brenda Jackson’s ‘Temptation’ – on sale soon!)  Daniel Warren is a New York star architect who travels to Texas to help out a friend by designing the new TCC clubhouse. There he finds himself entranced by Royal’s ranching darlin’, Elizabeth Milton.  After meeting Elizabeth the first time, Daniel muses, That woman might be Texan to her core, but she sure as heck doesn’t walk like she spent most her time on a horse. In fact, she moves with the finesse of a runway model, with the fluid grace of a cat.
When sparks ignite and engulf them both, the only way to continue the affair is for Daniel to prolong his stay; Elizabeth is under legal obligation not to leave the state – her home. Thing is Daniel is beyond itching to get back to where he belongs. The reason  he’s so uncomfortable down that way, so close to South Carolina and its memories…?
Well, that’s just one of the story’s many twists and turns J

‘Millionaire Playboy, Maverick Heiress’ – an editor’s Top Pick and Book of the Month - is available in Australia, New Zealand, and NA now.  Leave a comment and be in the draw to win an autographed copy!

  7. Hey Kerri! This story certainly has a sizzle or two, lol. Actually it's the heroine, Elizabeth, who really gets the flames leaping. Poor Daniel doesn't stand a chance!

  11. Robyn, any book set in Texas hooks me in a big way. When my husband and I left the military installation on the Gulf Coast, I was hoping we'd relocate to the Lone Star state, but Kansas turned out to be a good move after all. Still, Texas ... (sigh)

I am looking forward to reading your latest book as soon as possible.

  14. Hi Michelle! So you're partial to cowboys? Me too =) Funny, isn't it, how the mention of any given country or state immediately brings an image to mind. Kansas...now that cornfields and Dorothy!
    Thanks, for your comment, Michelle!

  16. Xandra, it's true, isn't it? Some of the best films are the old ones. :)

And Happy Halloween to you too! We had to go out and buy extra candy. Guess the cobwebs and spiders worked!

  17. Hi Robyn - can't wait to read Millinare Playboy,Maverick Heiress. And I LOVE Giant. It's one of my favorites. I just love the chemistry between the main players - especially when Rock tells Liz he's own everything on the ranch and she snaps back with her hands on her hips "Does that include me too?" Go Liz :)
Great post, and sexy cover too!

  18. I've been lucky enough to have a sneak peek at Elizabeth and Daniel's story, and I loved it! Such atmosphere, such great characters. =)

You know, I've always meant to watch Giant, so now you've reminded me I must find a copy!

  19. See, Helen, it's been too long! I can't remember that scene. But Rock and Elizabeth are just amazingly gorgeous on the big (or little) screen. I believe they remained friends after the making of Giant until Rock's death.
    Robbiex
PS Yes, Daniel Warren does look mightly sexy on that cover!

  21. Hey Rachel! We go searching through secondhand book stores for gems. Perhaps we should do the same with old movies!

  22. Films set in Texas have always had that romantic cachet, and Texas romances sure are huge favorites with readers. The Lone Star State is big, but it's grown even more, in terms of its legends and reputation as a place to succeed on a grand scale.

  23. Great movie, GIANT! Loved James Dean. Books and movies set in Texas always have big, larger-than-life themes.

    Nice to meet you!

  24. Hi Nas, hi Robyn.
Sounds like a fabulous read. When I think of Texas I still picture those wild cowboys. I think it is still flavored in that way today. Best wishes for much success.

  37. Lovely to meet you too, Liz!
When I was researching for this blog post, I realised I hadn't seen James Dean in any other role. Was it only 3 films he starred in? His first appearance on the screen was in a Pepsi Cola ad.

This week I had those mad revisions to get in, plus managed to turn 24 again (happy birthday to me!) so lots of family stuff and getting together with friends, which was fabulous!

My middle daughter's graduating week after next, so we're just about to head off, driving to Brisbane to collect her amazing prom dress. I know I'm partial, but she looked so beautiful - so grown up - when she tried it on.

Again, thanks so much, Nas, and everyone for the wonderful comments!
