This week our Spotlight is on author Dani Collins. She has a new book out this month, A Virgin to Redeem the Billionaire!
Award-winning and USA Today Bestselling author Dani Collins thrives on giving readers emotional, compelling, heart-soaring romance with some laughter and heat thrown in, just like real life. Mostly she writes contemporary romance for Harlequin Presents and Tule’s Montana Born, but her backlist of forty books also includes self-published erotic romance, romantic comedy, and even an epic medieval fantasy. When she’s not writing—just kidding, she’s always writing. She lives in Christina Lake, BC with her high school sweetheart husband who occasionally coaxes her out of her attic office to visit their grown children—or travel.
What literary pilgrimages have you gone on?
This year, I’ll go on one to Valencia Spain where I’ve set three books. I keep revisiting the Montero family who live there. I can’t think of one where a book by another author has been set, but we’re also going to visit Bruges in Belgium as we’re big fans of the movie In Bruges.
What is the first book that made you cry?
It was a book about a wolf and a dog and the wolf died in the end. I bawled my eyes out. When I found Romance and realized they always end happily, I knew I had found my literary home. To this day, I won’t watch any of those movies about dogs. I know how they end and no. I won’t put myself through that again.
What is the most unethical practice in the publishing industry?
There are so many scams! I think the absolute worst is the fact that no one seems able to do anything about it. In a perfect world, the recent plagiarism would have been caught with a scan of any new books that are loaded. I think the publishers do what they can, but I wish we saw more proactive efforts to prevent piracy and gaming of the system by the digital platforms like Amazon.
Does writing energize or exhaust you?
Both. Sometimes I get my word count in and the feeling of satisfaction pushes me to achieve other tasks. Other days, I’m a wet dishrag afterward.
Tell us a little bit about your book...
A VIRGIN TO REDEEM THE BILLIONAIRE is the first in a duet about a pair of cousins who design jewelry. They’re obsessed with finding their grandmother’s earrings. One was sold in Hungary when their grandmother escaped unrest, the other was sold in America to start the family jewelry store, Barsi on Fifth. In book one, Gisella has learned that the earring will go on sale at an estate auction, but before she can bid, Kaine bids on the entire estate. When Gisella asks him to sell her the earring, he reveals he has a grudge against the family and demands she help him repair his reputation by posing as his mistress—which soon turns real. Gisella has a vow with her cousin that they’ll remain virgins until they’re in love, but Kaine is impossible to resist!

DeleteIt's kinda funny how a heart-breaking sob because of a sad animal story could steer someone into writing HEA romances, but I get it. I've killed some people in my books, but the animals? Never!
ReplyDeleteHa! and Right?
