Editing

Edited to add: Updated page for recent works are on this link Books Edited by Nas Dean

First and foremost, I'm an avid and passionate reader. My love of reading is well known. I blog at Romance Book Paradise. Our review site is Romance Book Haven. Come and be my friend on Facebook and chat with me on Twitter.

With editing I try to be meticulous and aim to make constructive suggestions without interfering with the overall conception of your writing voice. As a reader I know what hooks a reader in from the very first chapter. I can help find the inconsistencies and fix the errors thus making your manuscript flow better. I also try to make sure that all the story threads are neatly tied up. The published manuscript is a reflection of my work so I aim it to be of the highest quality possible.

Style guides I use:
New Oxford Style Manual (New Hart’s Rules and New Oxford Dictionary for Writers and Editors); The Chicago Manual of Style, 16th Edition and The Elements of Style, Fourth Edition.
Read on for what some of the published authors said after working with me while editing their manuscripts:

Jenny Schwatz said,

"Nas Dean respects your voice as an author, but asks you to give a little more. She provides overall feedback as well as identifying specific opportunities for improvement. This refines not only the manuscript under consideration, but your general craft skills. Nas is a joy to work with.

With a good editor, revisions are the best part of writing. I know that’s a big call. The enthusiasm and energy of the first draft is hard to be beat, but I love getting glimpses of my story through an editor’s eyes.

Great editors are an integral part of your writing journey. I’ve been blessed. Nas Dean who has just edited “Drawing Closer ” and taught me to delve even deeper into my characters’ emotional responses. Good editors are focussed on the manuscript they’re responsible for, but their comments and advice develop your craft.

Nas, I can’t thank you enough for being a wonderful editor; not only tactfully pointing out flaws and offering suggestions, but taking the time to explain the rules of grammar and lighten the gruesome bits with encouraging words.

Escape Publishing is Harlequin’s new Australian digital imprint and I’m still pinching myself at how lucky I am to be involved in such a fabulous venture bringing distinctive Aussie (and Oceanic) voices to the world. In particular, I’ve had the good fortune of working with editor, Nas Dean, on Drawing Closer and her editing eye, ideas, tact and support are invaluable. Thank you, Nas."

Jenny Schwartz's Drawing Closer edited by Nas Dean released December 2012.

Released 10 December 2012, Escape Publishing
Zoe Loyola has a secret. Just between her and her sketchbook, she loves sculptor Nick Gordon. Her drawings of him are hot and naked.
Nick has a secret, too. He’s being blackmailed. Protecting his family means ignoring his desire for Zoe.
But in the world of art, passion breaks every rule and secrets are made for sharing.

Also at Goodreads, Shelfari and LibraryThing.

As Kate Cuthbert, the Managing Editor of Escape Publishing said, "Drawing Closer by Jenny Schwartz: This short story has sizzle! Zoe has been in love with her cohort Nick for ages, but only she and her sketchbook–full of steamy nude drawings–know. Nick has a secret too, and the blackmailer is the only thing stopping him from going after Zoe full throttle. In the world of art, though, passion overrides everything."

And Jenny Schwartz's Australia Day Story Mistaken Engagement edited by Nas Dean releasing in January 2013 By Escape Publishing.

Mistaken Engagement

Saul knows he crossed the line when he claimed a surprise engagement with Grace. But her hysterical denial – and the way she's avoided him ever since – has made things awkward, but it can all be worked out.

The Australia Day long weekend down at her family’s beach house is the perfect time to show everyone that they’re friends, with not a broken heart between them. But can a fake engagement become life-changingly real?

Nicole Flockton- Bound By Her Ring edited by Nas Dean for Escape Publishing, said:

“I enjoyed working with Nas as my editor. Together we worked on the story and improved it, while not losing the essence of the theme of the story. Her suggestions were insightful. It’s a pleasure to work with an editor who ‘gets’ you and your voice.

I’m always excited to get edits back. I hope to see that I’ve evoked emotions with her, but also I’m excited to see what the editor can add to enhance my story. To make the book sparkle even more.

Nas Dean is the consummate professional, but has a wonderful sense of humour – we had a lot of fun brainstorming ideas for a new title for my book. I hope to continue working with her on future stories.”
