It depends what you want to write! Emotions tend to draw the reader in, but conflict can be interesting if it’s a moral dilemma and not so much about the push-pull of attraction, for instance. Also, authors have to put themselves into the head of all types of people. If I can imagine someone who doesn’t feel emotions very deeply, I’m sure another author could imagine themselves in the head (and heart) of someone who does.
What was an early experience where you learned that language had power?
For me it was very much a growth over time process. There was the early thing where your mom tells you the “Sticks and stones… words will never hurt me,” and you try to believe it, but guess what? Sometimes words still hurt!
Later, when I first began writing, I was very tentative and had so many rejections, but I slowly learned that the more authentic I was, the more I left more of myself open, the more progress I made—but guess what? That hurts, too! You feel very vulnerable.
More recently, as I’ve learned more about diversity and inclusion, I’m seeing how my own words can be hurtful, especially if I think my perspective is the only perspective. It’s a process!
As a writer, what would you choose as your mascot/avatar/spirit animal?
There’s a standing joke in this house that I am like a cat. I’m pretty quiet and aloof, doing my own thing. I appear quite sedentary but get yowly when I’m hungry. I hiss when people come into my office, then want to cuddle on the couch.

Cinderella’s Royal Seduction is a take-off of the classic fairy tale! Sopi (short for Cassiopeia) is trying to rescue her mother’s spa resort from the clutches of her evil stepmother and stepsisters. Prince Rhys Charlemain is looking to buy it, but he’s also in need of a wife. His presence draws all the eligible women to the resort, but he only has eyes for Sopi. There’s a lost shoe and a midnight encounter, then he reveals a secret from her past and it soon turns into a marriage of convenience with a few more twists. I hope you love it!
Cinderella's Royal Seduction
His until midnight
Will she wear his crown?
Sopi is exhausted! With Prince Rhys Charlemaine staying nearby, the luxury spa she calls home is overflowing with aspiring princesses! It’s frantic…until working all hours leads to a late-night encounter with charismatic Rhys himself…
Untouched Sopi gives herself one chance to feel like a princess in Rhys’s arms. She knows it cannot go further, until Rhys stuns her with his convenient proposal! He promises exquisite pleasure, but Sopi has seen the man behind his royal mask—dare she believe he wants her for more than desire?
