Our Spotlight on Author is on Beth Prentice.
I’m Beth and I live on the gorgeous Sunshine Coast in Queensland.
I write funny, romantic mysteries (aka cosy mysteries), paranormal cosy mysteries, and the odd rom com because two of my favourite things are romance and mystery.
When I’m not writing you can find me lost in a good book, passively watching documentaries (my hubby loves them and seems to have gained full control of the remote) or scrolling Instagram dreaming of perfect hair.
Oh, and I do love a good chat so feel free to reach out to me anytime! I can’t wait to meet you all!
xoxo

What inspires you to write? I just love writing. I love creating worlds and characters that are fun, that can take the reader on an adventure filled with romance and mystery. Life can be hard, and those days are great for me to immerse myself into a place I can control, where everything works out just the way I want it to. Of course, that story contains chaos and dark moments, but I only write stories that have a happy ending, so even though my heart can be pounding with the danger my character is facing, I know that it will all work out in the end. I mean, who doesn’t want to live in that world? 😊
What is your favorite genre and why? I love romantic mysteries. I mean who doesn’t love a bit of romance and when you throw a mystery in there I’m hooked. This genre is generally light-hearted which is h=just what I need to escape the pressures of life, often taking me on a journey that I would never be brave enough to do in real life. I mean, would you want to hunt down a killer?
Share a little about your writing process – I look at my writing as I would a job. I try to be in my office by eight thirty am, and I start the day looking over data from ads vs sales. With that in mind I move ahead tweaking ads or making new ones, taking a few hours to tick off lessons in marketing or learning how to create new avenues and opportunities. The afternoon is dedicated to craft where I sit down and write. Some days that looks like fingers flying over the keyboard, my muse keeping me ferociously writing. But some days that looks like me staring at a screen as my muse has taken a day off. When that happens I try to focus on plot, but if I’m further into the story than that, then I’ll spend the day going over my words already written and editing and tightening where I can.
Deciding to buy an old house and renovate it, her hunky handyman Riley discovers a bundle of love letters and an engagement ring and together they try to track down the person it truly belonged to. Only not everyone wants them to learn the truth. What follows is an adventure filled with love, lies and a little bit of danger.
Great interview. And yes, my partner has claimed the remote too - so I read rather than watch.
ReplyDelete:) The upside is I often over hear facts and that can spark a mystery plot!
DeleteReading is actually escapism, and if it's done well, then both the writer and the reader win. Romantic mysteries are great for escapism from our messy, tough reality.
