1.  How do you keep coming up with fresh characters and stories?
The strange things is, I am not really sure. Even as a kid, I always had story ideas running around in my head. Early on, I leaned to jot them down while they were fresh. It takes time and effort to write and polish a book, and by the time I’ve finished one, the idea will have escaped me if I don’t have notes. If I have one rule, it’s always jot it down. Create a file. Add as much detail as necessary WHILE IT’S FRESH. Incidentally, I keep a notebook by my bed because snarky dialog or quirky characters visit me as I try to slip off to sleep. Needless to say, I with that notebook, I will never want for ideas.

2.  What do you like to read?
I don’t have as much time to read as I would like (thanks to that aforementioned notebook). I always have a book—or three—breathing down my neck. That said, when I do take time to read, it is usually research for a book I am working on. The last book I read was No Easy Day for a SEAL romance. If I read romances, I try to pick shorter books or novellas, because I am a reading addict and honestly, I really should be writing!

3.  What's your favorite place to read?
Wherever the book is. ;) Oddly enough, even though most of my books are digital, I prefer print books. (Secret confesstion: I’m a sniffer, and that doesn’t work too well with a kindle)

4.  What are some of your reading pet peeves?
ERRORS! They always throw me out of the story. I work hard to make sure my work is error free, and I expect authors and their editors to do the same. It’s tough for me, because I am dyslexic, so I make extra efforts. That said, they do happen. To everyone. I rarely get to read, so I want it to be a joyful experience.

5.  Do your characters stick with you after you've finished a book and if so, how do you handle it?
Absolutely. Some more so than others. But I write fast so there is a possibility for things to get crowded in my head if I let them hang out in there. Most of them are polite enough to head off into the sunset when they get their HEA. But some do linger. When I am working on a series, I need them to stick around, but for the single titles that have launched into the world…it’s time to let them go.

6.  How do you handle writer's block?
I always pre-plot my books and get to know characters before I begin to avoid a stall. That usually works, especially if I am excited about where the book is going. But sometimes I take a wrong turn and get stuck in the mud. My options are going back to the wrong turn and starting over, or plowing forward. Sometimes I do both. If neither works, sometimes (if I am not contracted to finish a book) I just stop and start another book. The stalled book will percolate in my brain and surface when it’s ready to…and the problem usually works itself out. I have many books “on vacation” right now. ;)

7.  What motivates you to write your books?
I just love to write. There’s something magical about creating a world and peopling it with characters and then throwing them into wild and amusing situations. And sexy…did I mention sexy?
I also love my readers. I love the idea that I am able to give them something that warms their heart, makes them laugh or causes them to sigh. I love that I can entertain someone and maybe brighten their day a little.

8. Tell us a little about your book...

Imagine a collection of stories about men brought to their knees by love! This STEAMY collection by acclaimed erotic romance authors will test their heroes to their limits! Read on for more about this steamy set by A.M. Griffin, Amy Ruttan, Anya Richards, Cynthia D'Alba, Danica Avet, Felice Fox, Jennifer Kacey, Lynne Silver, Sabrina York, Sayde Grace & Tina Donahue.

In Sabrina York’s Whipped, Dane Coulter is mourning the loss of his best friend, fellow Special Ops buddy, Cody. Oh, Cody didn’t die. It’s worse. He’s getting married. Cody is, in Dane’s opinion, whipped. Dane swears he will never suffer the same fate. But when he meets a woman who can take all his dominant loving and beg for more, he realizes he may have met his match. It’s a damn shame she’s the one woman in the world his man-code deems untouchable…his best friend’s sister.

Here is a teaser from their first interaction. (See if you can spot the snark I mentioned earlier…)

Her lips curled. “I’m Bambi.”
“Bambi.” His snort said it all. Yeah. Right. “And spit out that gum, Bambi.” The rumble in his voice told her the gum really annoyed him for some reason. She filed this fact way—for later. When annoying him might come in handy. But she did as he asked, spitting the gum into the wastebasket with a “Patooey.”
Then she linked her hands behind her and wiggled from one side to the other. She could tell her blasé attitude annoyed him as well. His fingers curled into fists as though he wanted to spank her now. “Anything else, Sir?” She invested her tone with a rebellious thread.
Sure enough, his nostrils flared. “Are you wearing panties under that skirt?” God she loved when he barked.
“Yes…Sir.” His eyes narrowed at her deliberate hesitation.
“Take them off.”

Be sure to grab your copy of the entire set for the unbeatable price of 99¢. And tell your friends!

  1. Fan-TAS-tic interview, ladies!

As for these stories being for smart and sexy readers? I've always been considered "smart," but my "sexy" days are probably in the rear view mirror. Still, these stories sound fantastic. I will definitely buy them. (Old ladies like this kinda stuff, too...)

  7. Congrats, Sabrina!! I love the answer about writer's block - and errors are a MAJOR peeve of mine, too. I give books second and third chances, but after the third error I stop reading, unless the book is so spectacular that I can ignore them.

    1. That is the key Liz...to make the story so absorbing, readers will suspend disbelief and step into the fantasy! Oh, and not care about a misplaced comma. ;)

  9. I love the notebook idea. I agree that it is important to get ideas down when they are fresh. That being said- I need to get a notebook next to my bed. :) Best of luck to Sabrina!

  10. Hi Sabrina. Great advice re the notebook. Isn't it annoying when story ideas interrupt your sleep...but not really. They are usually the best. I hate errors in books too. I get pretty snarky, especially when it becomes obvious the author hasn't paid an editor.

I'm looking forward to getting to your story in the set.

    Hi Nas!

    1. Denise, some of those ideas are the most pure, because they are raw and unfiltered. Also, sometimes, in the morning, they make NO SENSE. Sometimes I am too groggy to turn on the light and just scribble in the dark... those are inscrutable at best. ;)

  11. I have to jot down ideas as soon as they come to me too. They're always better fresh.

  12. I wish I could pre-plot. That definitely would help. I have to start writing and go from there, so, of course, writer's block happens around the middle, when I have no choice but to try to plot things out.

  13. It's amazing how the ideas keep coming!

  14. Like the notebook idea. I also keep on forgetting things and it's so annoying when it's time to write and I can't remember what I told myself I'd write about. Thanks!

  15. I also keep a notepad by my bed just in case! Great interview, and it was nice learning more about your writing process, Sabrina! Thanks Nas!
