  • BIOGRAPHY

After developing my creative skills by raising two children, they had the audacity to grow up. Bursting with enthusiasm and with no one to shower it on, I discovered fiction writing. The story of my heart came kicking and screaming out of my head in 2000. I had a choice to either write it down or go loopy. I think a little of both happened, because in 2001 I entered the world of romance writing, and what an intriguing journey it has been. Through writer’s groups, national and local conferences, and extension courses to hone my craft, I’ve discovered the most wonderful group of supportive people, and first class friends. I consider it a blessing.

I think my husband thought I was having an on-line affair when I first started spending hours and hours before my computer, typing away. But when he realized that I was pursuing my dream of writing a romance novel, he offered his support. So of course, he was the first one to know when I got “the call” from across the pond on November 8th 2005 at 7:30 a.m. Harlequin Mills & Boon wanted to buy one of my books!

As a registered nurse for over twenty years, it made sense to write medical romance. I love to write about the world of medicine, and the potential for finding love amidst hospital drama, stress, and sometimes grief.

When I’m not writing or working three days a week as a Registered Nurse, I love to read, take day trips with my hubby, or better yet, vacation. I also like to see movies and eat out—Italian and Mexican restaurants are my favorites. For exercise, I take power walks with my Rhodesian Ridgeback, Rogan. I find brisk walking helps stimulate my imagination, and I’ve often solved writing dilemmas or come up with new ideas for books while walking my dog. Sometimes I think he’s my muse.

Do you have a favorite locale or setting for your novels? What is it and why is it your favorite?Since I was born and raised in California, I love to keep my stories based in the Los Angeles area. I have created a fictitious medical facility in North East L.A.: Mercy Hospital. Drop by and pay it a visit. My characters usually hang out in the E.R.

Which of the books you have written is your favorite? The answer to that will always be my work in progress.

Lynne Marshall's latest release THE CHRISTMAS BABY BUMP is book three of The Midcoast Medical Trilogy.
     Book one and two are:
    The Boss and Nurse Albright
The Heart Doctor and The Baby.

When reading these connected books, it was like visiting relatives and friends of relatives!

An amusing something happened to me. During dinner one evening, my daughter said,

    "Mum, you know Claire's got a daughter".(Book 1)
I replied, "Yes, Gina. Now Claire is about to give birth again." (Book 2)

And my husband, listening to this asked, "So, who is Claire? And where did you two meet her?!"
We fell around laughing...he'd thought Claire was someone we met, one of our neighbours!

    1. Hi Nas!
Wow, I am so honored that you have put such effort into your blog on my behalf. I absolutely love knowing that you and your daughter discussed my characters from the Midcoast Medical series as though they were neighbors. You made me smile!

I had done that interview for Harlequin a few years back so now I must say that I no longer have to stare at a blank computer screen at 5:30 in the morning. I don't get started until around 7 a.m. these days, since I am now writing full time. I also don't miss the commute!
Please keep up the good work on your blog. I hope you get a huge following, and thanks for spotlighting me!
      Your friend,
      Lynne Marshall

    9. Hi Joanna! thanks for the kind words. By the looks of me, I should have fifty novels under my belt, ha ha, but I didn't begin writing until my kids were almost grown, and then I discovered a whole new aspect about myself. I've been an avid reader all my life, but I didn't realize all those characters and stories flipping through my mind were meant to be books!

I'm so glad I figured that out, and was lucky enough to get published by Mills & Boon.

    10. Well I for one am happy for you and will keep an eye out for your books The Book Depository is my friend.
If there is one thing I am figuring out its how much I need to learn the craft, am glad Nas shined the spotlight on you today.

    11. Oh, the book depository is a God send with their free shipping around the world!

When I started out, I didn't know squat about writing, and I learned so much from joining the Romance Writers of America and joinging my local chapter. These days there are literally hundreds of online workshops given by other authors on all kinds of craft topics. That is one option for helping you learn your craft.
However, the best I have is something Stephen King says: Read alot, write alot!
