Who is Nicole Flockton?
Nicole Flockton is someone who has found something she really enjoys doing – writing books! When she's not writing books she's going for runs with her Siberian Husky Maya. Taking the kids to and from school and sports events. Plus trying to be a good wife for her wonderful husband. It's a balancing act that she doesn't balance well some days.

What inspired you to be a writer?

I don't think I was inspired as such, but I do remember reading a lot of Mills & Boon and Harlequin books and thinking that one day I'd like to try my hand at it. I started and stopped but once I found the community forum of eharlequin.com I finally summoned up the courage to try and write something. It still took me about ten years from that first attempt to actually getting published. But I learned a lot on that journey and will admit to thinking, at times, if this is what I want. Now I know it is.

How did you chose your genre?

I love contemporary settings. I'm too impatient to spend a lot of time researching the way people dressed or spoke or acted to write any sort of historical fiction. Also with paranormal I don't think I have the right type of brain to come up with new worlds. For me contemporary was the most logical choice.

What made you tell this story and why  did you write this book?

Rescuing Dawn features a character from my first book "Masquerade". Dawn was just a character who made a brief appearance and I initially had the way wrong idea about her. But after Masquerade was accepted and I received the edits I had Dawn stand up and tell me that she had a story to be told and I needed to tell it. Plus I really wanted to get into her mind. She'd lost her husband and son in a car accident and shut herself away, I wanted to know why. I'm not going to give away any spoilers but there was a conversation she had with Andrew, the hero, that shocked me when I wrote it. I never thought in my mind that Dawn would do what she had done.

How did you come up with the title?
For a while it was just Dawn and Andrew's story, but as I got more into it I realized that she was being saved from an empty life, hence she was being rescued. So I came up with "Rescuing Dawn". Fortunately the editor really liked it too so it stuck.

RESCUING DAWN
He helps save lives, now he wants to save hers.

Dawn Granger has loved and lost and it’s a road she’s not prepared to travel again, that is until her past turns up and has her questioning her resolve.

Andrew Holmes has sailed the globe numerous times, when he almost loses his life, he decides he needs to give something back so he returns home and trains as a paramedic. When he runs into his former sweetheart he is surprised to find an attraction he thought dead come to life. When he sees the sadness in Dawn he knows he will do anything to make her smile again.

Dawn tries to resist Andrew but their past pulls at her in ways she thought long dead. Can she trust a man who's run out on her once before? Can she risk putting her heart on the line again? Or will it all be taken from her again.

  1. It's interesting to get into a secondary character. When I wrote the companion novel for A Change of Plans with Jori as the mc, there were things that occurred to me that I hadn't considered when I wrote that first book. It's fun to delve deeper.

    1. Hi Donna! Yep you always think perhaps I should've said that in the first book. But the fun with writing a totally separate book about them, is that you then have the opportunity to take it deeper.

  2. I love when those secondary characters demand their own stories!! So much fun :)

    1. LOL Jemi so true!! Dawn was just a fleeting character and to be honest when I first wrote her she was in her 40's and her son was a teenager. So it was a big surprise when this character spoke up and said. "Umm you know what I'm only in my late 20's you've got me all wrong and I think I'm ready to start living again. What ya got for me?" LOL I think she's happy with how it turned out.

  10. This is one brave woman. She writes books AND she owns a Siberian Husky. They are lovely creatures, but the ones I've known take a lot of care. Worth it, I agree.
