This week our Spotlight on Author is on Carrie Nichols. She has a new book out this month, The Hero Next Door.
Carrie Nichols writes small-town contemporary romances full of heart, home and humor for Harlequin Special Edition and Entangled Bliss. Carrie Nichols is a hardy New Englander who traded snow for central AC when she moved to the Deep South. She loves to travel, is addicted to British crime dramas and knows a Seinfeld quote appropriate for every occasion. Carrie has one tolerant husband, two grown sons and two critical cats. To her dismay, Carrie's characters, much like her family, often ignore the wisdom and guidance she lovingly offers.

What inspires you to write?
All the characters clamoring inside my head wanting me to tell their story! I get so much enjoyment from reading I have always wanted to do that for someone else with the stories I write.
What is your favorite genre and why?
Romance for sure! I want a happy ending.
Share a bit about your writing process.
What can I say? It’s a bit of a mess since I don’t write linear. I wish I could write starting with chapter one and go in a straight line until I reached “The End” but my brain doesn’t work like that. I write the scene or chapter that’s in my head that day then string it all together. Not easy but it’s the only way I know how to get to “The End”.
Tell us about your book...
Olive, the heroine of The Hero Next Door, wins a grand old Queen Anne Victorian and wants to re-open the former B&B. Her biggest obstacle to realizing her dream is the Fire Marshal across the street with his seemingly endless list of fire code violations. Cal rescues a pair of abandoned kittens and brings them to the kindest person he knows. The kittens, aptly name Mischief and Mayhem, work to bring the two humans closer together.
The Hero Next Door (Small-Town Sweethearts Book 6)
Olive Downing has big dreams for her Victorian bed-and-breakfast. She doesn’t need her handsome new neighbor pointing out the flaws in her plan. But Cal Pope isn’t the average busybody. The gruff firefighter can be sweet, charming—and the perfect partner for the town fundraiser. Then Cal surprises her with two adorable rescue kittens. Maybe there’s a soft heart underneath his rough exterior that needs rescuing, too…

It amazes me that some authors are able to write scenes in a non-linear fashion, and then can piece it all together to create a coherent story. Kudos to you!
