Sarah Morgan on The Forbidden Ferrara and her RITA® Nomination!

Today, we have UK based author Sarah Morgan and I asked her some serious and some fun questions! And then I found out she's just been nominated for the prestigious RITA® awards by the Romance Writers of America®.

What do you love most about writing for Harlequin Presents?

The stories are fairy tales for grown ups! I love the intensity and glamour of Presents. It’s the perfect escape, both to write and to read. The emotions are relatable, but the lifestyle and setting can be dreamy, exotic and luxurious (but you know all about dreamy and exotic as you live in Fiji, Nas! Can you hear my envious sigh as I reach for my umbrella yet again….) And of course Presents is the home of the Alpha Male…… need I say more?

What do you think makes a good story?

A good story has strong conflict and interesting characters. Whether you’re reading a thriller where much of the conflict might be external (being chased by the bad guys) or a romance where it might be internal (‘I know love hurts so I’m not going to fall in love’) – conflict is essential to keep readers turning the pages. We read to find out ‘what happens next’ but we only care about what happens next if we’re interested in the characters and sympathize with them.

Tell us a little about your current release The Forbidden Ferrara.

The Forbidden Ferrara is an intense, passionate story set on the stunning Mediterranean island of Sicily. The hero is Santo, a hot-blooded Sicilian and the youngest of two brothers (I wrote about the first brother in Once A Ferrara Wife) and the heroine, Fia, is a chef with a dark and troubled past. This is a story with plenty of conflict!

You write about exotic places in Presents – what is your ideal holiday destination?

At the moment, anywhere warm! I love the Mediterranean, particularly Greece and the island of Corsica, which is wild, mountainous and beautiful.

Anywhere you haven’t travelled you would like to go?

Brazil. I set one of my stories in the Brazilian rainforest and did a lot of research, which made me desperate to visit.

What one item do you always pack when you travel?

A book!

What did you feel when you received the ‘Call’ to tell you that your book, Doukakis’s Apprentice is a RITA® finalist?
I was stunned and very, very happy! I was a finalist last year with my book Dare She Date the Dreamy Doc, so I didn’t think there was any way I would final two years running – that made it extra special. There is no feeling quite like getting that phone call!
[Congratulations Sarah! I'm so happy and excited for you!]

Blurb

Laurel Ferrara wouldn't know a happy ending if she fell over it—of course her whirlwind wedding was always going to end in disaster. But it wasn't as simple as just walking away. From the moment she is summoned back to Sicily, the shivers of unease set in….

The command comes from legendary billionaire Cristiano Ferrara, the husband she can't forget—but it might as well have come from the devil himself. The outrageously gorgeous Cristiano's power is a potent reminder of this Sicilian dynasty's unbreakable rule: once a Ferrara wife, always a Ferrara wife….

The Forbidden Ferrara

Blurb
A Ferrara should never share a bed with a Baracchi—however high the stakes!
Dark-hearted Santino Ferrara has always remembered how long-legged, hot-tempered Fia Baracchi felt in his arms—much to his frustration. Then a million-dollar business deal throws them together, and keeping his distance is no longer an option.

But Fia is living a lie. If it's ever discovered that her precious little son is Santino's heir, she'll be disowned—their families' feud is legendary! But her real fear? That she can't forget the scorching memories of her one night with the enemy—and that she still craves more.…

So friends, where would you like to travel? And what item would you pack to take away?

  1. I adore the combination of fairy tale and alpha male and totally agree you can't go wrong when these two are paired together.

I'm off to the Med later this year and can't wait. (New Zealand winters are wet!) I have to say that Hawaii ranks up there as one of my favorites. I'll be happy with my iPad, which has music, books and movies.

All the best with the RITA final, Sarah.

  13. Hi Shelley, you think New Zealand winters are wet you should try the UK at the moment. I've honestly forgotten what the sun looks like. I had to Google it to remind myself.

  40. Hi Sharon, great to 'meet' you. I love travelling too, but I also love the fact that the internet can give you visual access to so many places you might not have been able to 'see' before. It certainly helps as a writer.
Hope you pile up those souvenirs this summer!

Someday I want to visit Japan. And I'm sure a book would end up in my suitcase somewhere!

    ReplyDelete
  44. Hi Sarah,

    Congratulations on the nomination.

The Ferrara brothers do sound intense. I was reading the reviews on Once A Ferrara Wife and

    The Forbidden Ferrara

and both sounds like intensely emotional stories!

    ReplyDelete
  45. Ooh, I love stories set in the Mediterranean!

    ReplyDelete
  46. The Golden Eagle (I love eagles!) thanks for the congrats! Japan sounds so exotic - I'm sure it would be very interesting (and yum on the food). Hope you make it there someday!

    ReplyDelete
  47. Laura, thanks so much! Both stories are intense and emotional - Doukakis (my RITA finalling book) is more 'fun' and I've gone for 'fun' again in my next release, Defying the Prince. It's great to have a change of vibe from time to time.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Deniz, I love the Mediterranean too, particularly when it's raining outside. But finally the sun is shining in the UK so I'm pretending it's Sicily!

  51. Congratulations, Sarah!

I would love to visit Greece and Italy. I also pack books with me in the form of an ereader.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Thanks Medela! I love Greece and Italy and an ereader is perfect (as long as you're not clumsy like me, with a tendency to drop everything the moment I see sand and water!) Have a great summer.

    ReplyDelete
  53. I'm not fussy, I'd just like to go somewhere that isn't Australia. Europe would always be first preference.
I tend to want to go to wherever the book I'm reading is set. Lately a lot of them have been either the Mediterranean or Switzerland/Austria.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Hi Princess Fiona :D The beauty of reading is that you can be transported to foreign places without moving from your chair. I love Switzerland. So pretty. Hope you get to Europe soon!

    ReplyDelete
  55. I'd like to visit Fiji! And I'd take my Kindle Fire.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Oooh these Ferrara brothers are making me all hot n steamy! Yikes!! Oh but Laurel and Fia sound like they can match these alpha males no problemo! Phew!! Good luck Sarah, thanks for the intro to your amazing books!! I'd like to pack a Farrera please! LOL! Take care
