Her books have won numerous awards, including the National Readers' Choice Award, the Golden Quill for Best Short contemporary Romance and for Best First Book, Romantic Times Magazine's American Title, and the Holt Medallion Award of Merit. Janice lives in Tennessee with her Prince Charming, their seven kids, her vivid imagination, and an adorable Maltese named Halo who's the true princess of the house. 1. What is your day job?

I work full time as a nurse practitioner in family practice in Tennessee.

2. Is your day job your passion?

I do love being a nurse practitioner. There have been times over the past year and half that I’ve felt very burned out, though, due to all the added stressors that the COVID pandemic has put on the healthcare field. I am so blessed in that I adore many of my patients and some of them have been with me since the beginning of my career so they feel like family and friends. All that said, I must say that writing has been my big passion for as long as I can remember.

3. You're also an author. How do you balance your different career goals?

In many ways, writing is how I deal with the day-to-day stress of working in the healthcare field. I imagine I write for the same reasons many readers read—to escape. As much as I love what I do, it can sure drain one emotionally, mentally, and physically to deal with life and death and all in between. I always want to provide great care for my patients so I typically am not doing anything writing oriented on my work days. There are times that it just happens that writing overlaps into my day job and when the day job overlaps into my writing time. The best was the day Wrapped Up in Christmas hit the USA Today. I was at work and found out at the end of my lunch break. I was quite giddy for the rest of the day and fortunately no one came in to where my being super happy was inappropriate. My husband works in retail and works on Saturdays. I’m off work on Mondays and Saturdays, so home to where I can write. Sundays are my family day where I do my best not to work at either career, but to spend as much time as I can with my husband and family. And, then there are days when nursing, writing, and family all seem to demand more than I have to give and it can be a bit overwhelming. Fortunately, those are far and few between and most days you’ll find me with a big smile on my face.

4. Do you have the support of family and friends?

I am so blessed by my family and friends. My husband understands when I’m on deadline or right before a release when I need to focus most of my time away from the day job toward my writing career. He’s great at picking up the slack and giving me a big hug when needed. My parents are wonderful and proud. My kids…well, they don’t seem impressed. LOL. My friends, coworkers, and community are great, always lifting me up.

5. Can you tell us a little about yourself and your writing path?

My writing path is a unique one as I won my first publishing contract from a contest called American Title that was sponsored by Romantic Times Magazine and Dorchester Publishing. I had entered a LOT of writing contests. Won a few, finaled in several, and lost a lot. That book did okay and was fun. I’d already signed with an agent and we had a few other projects out. I ended up signing a 2 book deal with Harlequin. I’ve written 33 Medical Romances and 2 online reads for them and am under contract for an additional 3 books. In 2019, my first sweet romance came out with Hallmark Publishing and I fell in love with the genre and the sweet romance readers.

6. Tell us about your book.

Wrapped Up in Christmas Hope is the third book in my ‘Wrapped Up’ series from Hallmark Publishing. Each book is stand alone, but also is a revisit to Pine Hill, Kentucky. In Wrapped Up in Christmas Hope, my hero is a dare-devil firefighter who aspires to become a smokejumper. My heroine is a widowed single mother who likes playing it safe. They’re thrown together helping with a Quilts of Valor Sew-in and with the town’s Christmas festivities. I had so much fun writing their love story and visiting with the Butterflies, a group of big-hearted, but meddling older women, and giving one her happy-ever-after, as well.

Wrapped Up in Christmas Hope

He’s willing to risk his life to save others.
Is she willing to risk her heart on him?

Morgan’s late husband was a daredevil…and now she’s a widowed single mom. All she wants now is to set up a stable life for herself and her son in the small town of Pine Hill, Kentucky.

Andrew’s a firefighter who thrives on the rush of saving others. His secret dream is to become a smokejumper and fight raging wildfires across the country. But it’ll mean leaving his hometown and the people who rely on him.
Morgan and Andrew are drawn together as they both volunteer to make quilts for veterans at the local quilt shop. Morgan’s son looks up to Andrew, and Morgan can’t help but notice how good Andrew is with him. Meanwhile, Andrew’s torn between his ambition and his growing attraction to Morgan. 1. Oh, please don't hang your head in shame. I promise you that I feel like I'm in a constant state of putting out that moment's fires rather than being organized and on top of things. I use a lot of lists. LOL

    1. Probably not. They see us as their parents and through that tunnel vision. I imagine I probably do the same with my own parents...although perhaps much less as I get older. :)
